A screen can be real care when the basics are real
Telehealth is a visit format. It still needs a licensed doctor or other medical professional who may treat you where you are, enough information for a decision and a way to keep talking.
Your location matters during the visit
Federal health guidance current in September 2026 says the medical professional needs a licence or other legal permission to practice where the patient is physically present.
There is no single national medical licence. An agreement among participating states can make it quicker for a doctor to apply in several states, but the doctor still receives a separate licence from each state.
- Write down the state where you will be during the appointment.
- Ask for the current licence or other legal authorization used in that state.
- Confirm it in that state’s own public record.
A form may start the talk, but it cannot end it
A first online appointment does not always need live video. A form can be part of the visit if a medical professional reviews it, can ask follow-up questions and gathers enough health history for an assessment.
A fixed form alone is not enough when nobody can ask a follow-up question or gather missing history.
